Between 12-14.10.2011, Olesiński & Wspólnicy Law Firm participated in a conference organised by the Provincial Police Headquarters in Gdańsk under the auspices of the Chief Police Commander, entitled “Intellectual Crime as a Manifestation of Cross-border Crime.” |
|
Representatives of law enforcement authorities, creative circles, owners of the most popular world brands and national web portals met to discuss the problems encountered in the recent years in counteracting intellectual crime; new manifestations of illegal activities on the Internet; and possibilities of prosecuting or asserting claims in respect of the committed crimes. In their presentations, the speakers pointed to the connections between intellectual crime and organised crime. They also mentioned legal aspects of crime relating to computer, phonographic or audio-visual piracy, or trademark counterfeiting. Bartłomiej Stępień, Trainee Attorney, a speaker representing Olesiński & Wspólnicy Law Firm, had an opportunity to present and moderate the discussion relating to the infringement of rights in trademarks by means of Internet advertisements. The participants were introduced, among others, to the problem of Google AdWords advertisements and the latest rulings of the Court of Justice of the European Union in that respect (L’Oreal vs. eBay / Louis Vuitton vs. Google, etc.). We would like to thank the organisers again for their invitation. We are pleased that the presentation was received in such a positive way by the audience. |
